Misty    

Coming to BCSNOVA in January of 2021 with more than 25 years of training and experience working with at-risk youth ages five and up and their parents, Misty is uniquely qualified to come alongside families living through the most challenging situations.  These trainings have equipped her to counsel families on a diverse set of therapeutic needs utilizing her knowledge base from intensive state approved, required, and provided instruction, workshops, and Continuing Education Units in parenting children with fetal drug and alcohol abuse (like FAS/E), early child development and attachment disorders (like Failure to Thrive , ADD, ADHD and RAD), childhood trauma (like abandonment,  PTSD(-C) and DID), and mental health disorders like (OCD, OOD, anxiety and depression).  When it comes to knowledge, God has equipped Misty through training, education and experience to support children who have personality and learning disorders, mental health and physical disabilities, and developmental and academic delays in her home 24/7, in the counseling office or in your home.   


Misty has served on the BCSNOVA Board of Advisors since 2018. She holds 37 Masters Degree credits and has multiple certificates from Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation’s School of Biblical Counseling including the the Essentials of Biblical Counseling Certificate, the Foundations of Biblical Counseling Certificate, the Topics in Biblical Counseling Certificate, and the Counseling Skills and Practice Certificate. Misty continues to study to better equip herself as a full family dynamic counseling, supervisory and mentorship provider. Misty has several years’ experience in Women's Ministry Leadership aiding in the implementation of the Women to Women Mentoring Program. Alongside her husband, Misty served as the head of the Couples Ministry at their local church providing both marital education & training and biblical based counseling to couples in need. She served repeatedly as a guest panelist on the LCDFS Foster Care Training Panel from 2007-2010.  Misty served for a year on a wrap-around team providing family therapy expertise, counsel, and support to a family in crisis.  Misty is also Infant and Adult CPR certified and MAT certified.  In 2024, Misty received her CPT certification specializing in PTSD.


Misty has parented biological, foster, adoptive and surrogate children and young adults.  She has experience advocating for children in public school, private school, and home school settings, both gifted and with those with physical, emotional and behavior disabilities.  She also has more than 8 years of experience supporting parents and children facing legal situations involving CPS, JDC, DFS, and DCSE.  She specializes in coming alongside families hoping to improve their parenting skills and address child behavior concerns.  Misty is a qualified visitation supervisor aiding in family reunification planning.  


In addition to being a mother to many children, Misty is also married to her childhood sweetheart who has been a training and parenting partner to her throughout the years.
